This photo was taken 23 May 1953, during the Korean War, by a U.S. Army Signal Corps photographer. It shows a UH-19 Chickasaw helicopter of the 6th Transportation Helicopter Company, U.S. Eighth Army, as it delivers C-rations to the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th U.S. Infantry Division, near Panmunjom.
The UH-19 was used for all types of utility missions: transportation of cargo and troops, rescue, and observation operations. It was capable of carrying up to one ton external cargo plus over 800 pounds inside.
