Bucyrus-Erie Model 22BM Crane, Shovel, Crawler Mounted, 12 1/2 Ton, 3/4 cu yd

Successor to the World War II Crawler Cranes, the diesel engine Bucyrus-Erie 22BM was the military version of the very similar Bucyrus-Erie 22B crane. The 22BM had a standard 40 foot boom and 3/4 yard clamshell. The engine was a Caterpillar D318 with a pony starting engine, although later production used a Cummins JN-6-1 diesel. Other options included a dipper stick shovel, dragline, 60 foot crane boom, or pile driver.

Bucyrus-Erie provided a Model 22BM for testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground from 4 April to 22 November 1968. However, other records indicate that the Model 22BM was procured for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1951 and 1956. The Model 22BM was FSN 3810-869-3092 or NSN 3810-00-869-3092.
