The Truck, Contract Maintenance, 1-1/4 Ton, 4x4 M887 is part of the M880 series of Dodge CUCV trucks purchased by the U.S. military during 1975-1978. The M887 has a custom body made by Southwest Truck Body Co. that accomodates tools and equipment in support of field maintenance operations.
The body and equipment considered alone are called Shop Equipment, Contract Maintenance, Truck Mounted, Southwest Model SECM (NSN 4940-01-016-2262), documented in TM 9-4940-421-14. The Contract Maintenance body is Model SECM with Serial No. SECM 1001 thru SECM 2532. It consists of eight compartments that provide storage space for all tools and equipment. The body is mounted on a Truck, Chassis, 1-1/4 Ton, 4x4 M887 (NSN 2320-00-579-9080). The shop is equipped with a generator-welder that provides 115 volt single-phase alternating current for operation of the air compressor and other equipment, and 200 amperes, 28 volt direct current for welding. The generator-welder is driven by a 154 cu. in., 4 cycle, gas engine.
