M920 Truck, Tractor MET, 8x6 w/winch
The M920 Truck, Tractor Medium Equipment Transporter (MET), 8x6 w/winch , 75,000 GVWR is used predominantly in engineer units to tow compatible low-bed semitrailers:
- M172A1, 25-ton payload
- M870, 40-ton payload
The M920 trucks are employed at the platoon level in essentially all engineer TOEs except ABN/AMBL. The M920 NSN is 2320-01-028-4397. It is also called Truck, Tractor, 20-ton. The M920 technical manuals were the TM-9-2320-273-xx series, where the xx represents the maintenance level.
Characteristics of the M920 Tractor
The M920 is powered by the Cummins Model NTC-400, 400 bhp @ 2100 rpm engine with a semi-Automatic (16 fwd gears, 2 rev) transmission. It's tires are 11:00 X 24 bias ply. Brakes are air exhaust, drum type.
The M920 Truck, Tractor MET, 8x6 w/winch is equipped with a pusher axle for equalizing the load on the rear axles.
