Description of the M-151 Truck, Utility, 1/4 ton, 4x4 Jeep

The M-151 jeep was in U.S. military service from 1962 into the 1990s, ultimately replaced by the High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). This vehicle was also called the MUTT (Military Utility Tactical Truck). In appearance it was a direct descendant of the World War II Willys MB (and Ford GPW), a 1/4 ton 4x4 useful for a great many light tactical missions.

M-151A1C and M-825 Recoilless Rifle Jeeps

The M-151A1C was a version of the M-151A1 modified to accomodate the M40A2 106mm Recoilless Rifle. Breaking the pattern of model numbers, the version of the M-151A2 modified for the Recoilless Rifle was designaged the M-825.

M-151 Military Jeep Information Resources

The M-151 series of jeeps were the last of the family of quarter-ton trucks that started with the World War II jeep. When the M-151A2 was replaced by the HMMWV, the era of the small, light jeep vehicle ended in the U.S. military.

The Illinois Army National Guard Combined Support Maintenance Shop in Springfield, Illinois restored the vehicle.  The vehicle was manufactured by AM General with serial number 02B82273-20780.
